Introduction to Chan Wa Computer Usage

---

Our own advances in computer technology

For five years, the Chan Wa Computer Club, led by the current WebMaster, has followed the latest trend in Computer Technology. We have developed very advanced technologies in management of data and networking. We have even started work on LINUX, and the use of JAVA technologies in our daily work and Web design. New teachers, whatever their paper qualifications, have a lot to learn from us, before they can grasp the depth and breadth of our work.

We welcome suggestions from our students and teachers to make this Home Page an effective means of learning and exchange of ideas, to make our school and community a better place to be. In fact, if you are a student or a teacher in this school, and you can help us to improve our Web Site, you are welcome to join our Web Team! Viva la Chan Wa!

We have learned from bitter experience that administrators must not allow new teachers full access to our computer room facilities without making them familiarize with the advances we have made in computer technology. It does not matter if the new teacher has a Basic Degree, or Masters or Doctorate in Computer Science. We have 20 years practical experience, PLUS training from the University of Malaya, as well as the best training facilities available in this country.

Through the five years that the current WebMaster has led the Computer Club, we have progressed a long way. We have accumulated quite a lot of documentation in the use of our facilities, as well as storage and archival of vital information and data. Our technology is so advanced that no administrator without formal training and practical experience can hope to grasp the depth and breadth of our knowledge and work.

We have a case of a rogue teacher who charmed the principal in thinking he knows more than we do, and did the most heinous crime in formatting the hard disks containing vital and invaluable historical data. The damage done is inestimable. Only inexperienced and untrained people who have no understanding whatsoever of Computer Science and Data Processing do such actions. Such unprofesional acts of destruction should have been prevented if the authorities understand the work that is done in the Computer Room. Our computing background is too advanced for some fresh graduates.

New teachers must understand the historical background of our computer room activities, and must not delete the work of former contributors to the School. They should only add or improve upon what we already have. That is something we have to learn from the West. Eastern thinking is backward in this respect, as this form of selfish and unprogressive thinking leads to total destruction of the old, to give way to untested ideas of fresh people who are lacking in knowledge and experience.

We must rid ourselves of the backward thinking that foreign and new is better. We must judge the new with our past experience, to develop our own brand of paradigm shifts needed to advance in this rapidly changing world. We cannot accept new thinking wholesale without evaluating their relevance to our environment.
