Intellectual Vandalism

Intellectual vandalism is the destruction of property produced through the thinking process manifested in the form of documentation, especially in electronic form, such as computer programs, Web site pages and other types of source material.

In general, intellectual works and property are abstract objects that cannot be easily grasped by people who do not comprehend the effort used in producing them. They are produced by very productive people who are inventive, progressive, and pioneers in the forefront of technology.

Other terms we can use for intellectual vandalism are technological vandalism, or even Information Technology vandalism.

It is a form of destruction that can be caused by a variety of reasons, such as rivalry, power struggle, revenge and  jealousy. In its mildest form it can be acts of mischieve or just simply carelessness. In its most foolish form, it is caused by lack of understanding and respect for the work of others.

Most vandalism is caused by people who have no respect for authority, and want their voice heard through acts of violence. Some of the milder forms of vandalism are caused by fun and playfulness, not caring about the consequences of their actions. Imagine a little boy spraying colored water from a water pistol onto the President of the United States while he is giving the State of the Union address!

Most vandals do not admit their acts of destruction, and would give a million lame excuses for their actions. They are usually non-repentent, and defend their actions with heroic words of false accusations. The little boy said he was bored, and his little sister pushed him.

Vandalism is usually the act of young people who are frustrated by their lack of comprehension of the world around them. They wish to show their power through acts of destruction just to prove that they can make a difference in the world they live in.

Most vandals escape unpunished, as it is difficult to prove their true intentions. This is where the world we live in becomes a dangerous place, because vandals usually escape scotch-free. They will propagate their crimes in other ways. Vandals are usually fairly intelligent beings, but their actions are misdirected. They ought to be caught and punished if we want to make our world a safe place to live and work in.
